Harp Contest 2022

Aim of the contest

The Franz Josef Reinl Foundation and its chairman Ernst Grossmann organise this annual composition contest in collaboration with universities, colleges, and conservatories for music to support young harp players.

Background

The Franz-Josef-Reinl-Foundation was established by Hilde Reinl in memory of her deceased husband, the composer Franz-Josef Reinl (departed 1977) and her son, the harpist Herrmann Ertl (departed 1963), with the intention to support young musicians.

Participants

The Contest is open for all harp players born after the 1st of January 1997 who have not completed their studies and who can show a matriculation certificate. Previous 1st prize winners are excluded from the contest.

Second: a work of free choice

The second round may not be longer than 20 minutes.
The entire program is to be performed from memory.

The artistic director of the Contest 2022 will be Mirjam Schröder-Feldhoff.

An international jury will decide on the awards, their decision is final.

Awards

The Reinl award 2022 for Harp amounts to

  • 2.200 euros for the first place,
  • 1.500 euros for the second place, and
  • 1.200 euros for the third place.

The awards will be documented with diplomas.

The date of the award ceremony will be announced in time. Participation of the award winners is mandatory.

Application

Certifications, curriculum vita, matriculation certificate of the participant and a recommendation of the participant´s harp teacher must be postmarked before 6th of January 2022 to:

With the application the Applicants accept the competition rules.

The participant´s Contest program must accompany the application and cannot be changed afterwards.

All performances will be open to the public.

The performers can use their own harp, Lyon&Healy and Salvi harps will also be available.

Concert and contest

Time and place of Contest and Concert

The Contest will be held between 7h and 10th of February 2022 at mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

The date of the Concert of the award winners will be announced in time. Participation of the award winners is mandatory.

Reinl-Stiftung will pay the travel expenses and hotel costs of the candidates (not living in Vienna) within Austria minus a deductible of 100 EURO (tourist-class hotel and train ticket 2nd class).
